Asian-American: History in Philadelphia

From the Indian subcontinent to the islands of Japan, from Vietnam to mainland China, Asian Americans have come to Philadelphia from disparate countries and cultures. They are individuals with distinct stories to tell about their journey and the lives they have built here. Together, they enrich the history of Philadelphia as a city, not only of neighborhoods, but also as a confluence of communities.

Today, the Asian-American population in Philadelphia extends far beyond the 30 bustling blocks of Chinatown. Now, Chinese-Americans, Indian-Americans, Vietnamese-Americans, Korean-Americans and Japanese-Americans comprise some of the largest Asian communities in Philadelphia.
